BOONEA – what’s in a name

Boonea is a genus of small sea snails.

Fascinating – but totally unrelated to BOONEA AG the company. The story is superbly simple, a technical prototype was called Bunea. Unfortunately the domain name was already reserved and we weren’t interested in trying to negotiate for ownership. Hence a simple shift of the vowels and we had a name.

Chance had it that this was a small sea snail, which gave the logo designer some inspiration and I think it actually worked out pretty nicely. The bigger question actually is on how to pronounce it. Phonetically it would sound something like “Boo-Knee-Ah”. But I prefer a pronounciation more along the lines of “Boo-Né-Ah”, if we ever get around to hiring a Chief of Branding & Sound Design, we’ll ask that person to get this sorted out, but right now this is not a focal topic of our work.
